JAMAICA 50 CRICKET MATCH

Dubbed Jamaica 50th Cricket, scheduled to be played at the Kia Oval on July 8th @ 1pm, betweenJamaican Legends X1 vs England Veterans X1. The event is expected to attracthundreds of Jamaicans and Caribbean nationals, as Jamaica celebrates 50 yearsof Independence from Britain. The event is also a precursor to the London 2012Olympics where the spotlight is expected to be on Jamaica with its outstandingathletic prowess.

Former England all-rounder John Embureysays that he enjoys the competitive side of cricket and playing against WestIndies legends from Jamaica; England wants to win. He said the English teamwill comprise of a mixture of players from age 40 to about 60 including himselfShaun Udal, Dean Headley, Phillip DeFreitas, Devon Malcolm and others. TheJamaican legends will be backed by Courtney Walsh, Maurice Foster, NehemiahPerry, Easton McMorris and Robert Samuels to name a few.

Jamaica's Acting High Commissioner tothe United Kingdom, Mrs Joan Thomas Edwards told those attending the launchthat the match is a fitting tribute to Jamaica's 50th year of independence fromBritain as the event will bring many from the Caribbean in a celebratory moodand will serve to highlight the bonding link between Jamaica and the UK broughtabout through the game of cricket.

Director of Victoria Mutual FinanceDelores Cooper commended the High Commission fortheir vision in conceiving an event which will serve to strengthen thefriendship between Jamaica and the UK brought about by cricket. Ms Cooper notedVMF which was set up in the UK over 30 years ago stands committed to fulfil itscorporate social responsibility within the community. She said that proceedsfrom the event will go towards the development of youth cricket in Jamaica.

Among others officials attending thelaunch were former West Indian cricketer Ron Headley and CEO Kia Oval RichardGould. Tickets for the anniversary match are now available at www.kiaoval.com
