1944, Abbeville, Alabama. African-American wife and mother Recy Taylor is gang-raped by six white men. Making the brave decision to speak out and press charges, Recy risks her own and her family’s safety in the fight for justice. Recounting the story behind this landmark case, Nancy Buirski’s compassionate documentary paints a powerful picture of a remarkable woman whose decision to speak up remains a source of inspiration for today’s #MeToo movement.
One of this year’s must-see documentaries, The Rape of Recy Taylor is screening daily at Bertha DocHouse (located in Curzon Bloomsbury) from 25th May. Find out more and book tickets at http://dochouse.org/cinema/screenings/rape-recy-taylor.
