About BMECC
BME Cancer Communities (BMECC) is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) registered in England: No 1182806.
The object of BMECC is:
To preserve and protect the health of people in particular but not exclusively from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) and low-income communities living with or affected by cancer by providing and assisting in the provision of:
culturally sensitive and appropriate practical advice, information, advocacy and support services;
services directed to improving participation in BME cancer research and detection initiatives, and
diversity training to improve the cultural sensitivity and service delivery of statutory bodies.
Our principal founders include a BME Cancer Information Specialist/Consultant who is a qualified radiotherapy radiographer with over 30 years experience of working in the NHS and the voluntary sector. She has worked with diverse ethnic groups affected by cancer and advises leading public bodies including major cancer charities, and the Department of Health.
Our advisors are professionals with expertise across a wide range of public and voluntary sector service; community and professional volunteers are valued and involved in the delivery of our services
