Black Maternal Health Summit 2020

The Shades of Blue Project is partnering with UTHealth and other community organizations for an event that will provide attendees in the health profession (clinical providers, educators, social workers, counselors, and researchers) with information on providing compassionate maternal, perinatal, and postpartum care to women from marginalized communities.

Conference Objectives

Convene people across the nation to establish a multidisciplinary approach to advance knowledge and practices about maternal health and justice that promote mental, reproductive and overall well-being health among black women

Promote human rights-based approaches, effective best practices and evidence-informed care that are tailored to address mental health and reproductive health needs of women of color.

Address gaps in the provision of mental and reproductive health care services and possible solutions for its integration in a range of health care and community-based settings.

Acknowledge messaging, communication strategies and interventions that are rooted in resiliency and disrupt narratives related to victimization, shame and judgment.
