Brixton Based Pegasus Opera brings us an evening to celebrate the black presence in opera and the works of black composers whose music will be heard in England for the first time.
Come join us on a historical and musical journey! Hear songs about Queen Nanny of the Maroons in Jamaica, the celebrated African American poet Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Margaret Garner (the woman who inspired Toni Morison’s Beloved). Listen to a musical story based on events that took place in Nigeria written by Wole Soyinka and another musical story set in colonial India.
After this melodic Black History Month journey, why not take the opportunity to talk to the performers at the free after-show reception.
