This Autumn, we Celebrate Black History Month by bringing back the Caribbean Living Room installation and engaging the Borough in fun, workshops and culture to spread the joy of “old skool” skills like Crochet, Dressmaking, Poetry and Head-wrapping.
Young People and Elders from the Borough can come together, enjoy some good old fashioned 1960s vibes whilst sharing stories, playing music, displaying art, doing workshops and exchanging ideas. Because Shepherds Bush Market has been the home to diversity and creativity for many years and is the emotional heart of the Borough for many people who came to the area in the 1960s we will display specially developed samples of Poetry and Images around the Market together with QR codes for people to hear the pieces being read out.
In addition to this we will record “Caribbean Voices” talking about their History and edit and upload these into a BT Telephone Seat Listening Booth which will be donated to the Borough’s Libraries.
