This program “Rest. Reclaim. Restore” , organized by Greater Boston Marxist Association and Black Lives Matter Boston, leads with the intention of building community and solidarity within the Black communities of Massachusetts. Through the weeks of COVID-19 Quarantine, Starting June 6th on Saturday’s from 4PM-6PM, organizers, artists, educators, speakers & activists will lead workshops based on community building, community healing and the Black identity. From yoga, to writing circles, and reading groups, we hope to bring forth a space for Black folks of all ages, communities and ethnicities to feel welcome in building solidarity and healing through these sessions.
First four sessions will be as followed:
Session 1: Mindfulness/Yoga/Meditation
Yogi and CPT at Island Lotus Andre Joseph based in Roslindale will be leading a session around yoga, meditation and mindfulness.
Session 2: “In The Wake, Of Blackness & Being” Reading & Discussion
Co-Leaders and Co-Founders of the Greater Boston Marxist Association, Leighsandra Sheppard & Queen-Cheyenne Wade will be leading an in-depth reading and discussion on excerpts of “In the Wake, On Blackness and Being” and themes of community and mourning in Black America.
Session 3: Groove & Move- Music Night
Join us for an afternoon of rhythm & blues with Boston based R&B singer/performer Ruth Christmas .
Session 4: Poetry & Journaling
Olivia Fenty, creator of the Chocolate Project and poet, will be leading a journaling and poetry workshop around expansion, Black mental health and self-care.
