To celebrate October’s Black History Month we are delighted to bring you our Screening Night – Black Nurses: the Women Who Saved the NHS, followed by talks and a Q&A discussion from our senior BME SWLSTG NHS Trust professionals.

This BBC documentary tells the story of the thousands of Caribbean and African women who answered the call 70 years ago to come to the UK to save the then ailing health service. It’s a tale of a struggle to overcome racism, their fight for career progression and their battle for national recognition. screening event will show the hours long.

The screening will be followed by talks and a Q&A discussion from senior BME SWLSTG NHS Trust professionals. This event will address issues that have affected BME NHS staff throughout the history of the NHS, a look into what challenges are still present today and examples of the approaches taken to overcome the difficulties in life and the workplace.
