On Friday 13th October, 2017, the Paul Canoville Foundation in association with Street Cred Productions will be celebrating the achievement of some of football’s firsts. It will be an evening where the positive contributions of former pioneering #blackprofessional #football players are recognised. The event has been scheduled to coincide with the nationally recognised #BlackHistoryMonth.
#PaulCanoville #HowardGayle #HopePowell #RickyHill #PatNevin #JohnBarnes #LesFerdinand #IanWright #PaulElliot and #ChrisRamsey will form the panel on the night.
In addition to discussing the challenges and progress made regarding equality in the game, we will also be addressing issues around #mentalhealth. The recent well documented problems faced by footballers #AaronLennon and #ClarkeCarlisle have thrown up necessary questions regarding the pressures that can sometimes accompany ‘the beautiful game’. Many former players agree that 50% of the game is played in the mind, therefore the more we discuss it, the less taboo the topic should become.
Guests will be encouraged to ask the former players questions to gain a deeper understanding of the magnitude of what these players have achieved throughout their careers. The discussion, video clips and opportunity to interact with the former players will make this a night educational and memorable.
The event, which will be held at Hammersmith Town Hall, will be hosted by former
Capital Xtra DJ #GeoffSchumann and is sponsored by #Hammersmith and #Fulham Council,
The #ProfessionalFootballPlayersAssociation, Kick it Out, the Football Association,
Britain’s General Union, #TheBeat and #TheVoice.
Doors open at 1830hrs and the event starts at 1900hrs. Tickets are available from:
Eventbrite (booking fee applies)
W12 Music, 414 Uxbridge Road, 020 8743 1400

Proceeds from the event will go to The Paul Canoville Foundation, a charity that works with young people facing economic, physical or mental adversity to build life-skills, resilience and support networks to build a better future for themselves and for their community.
