Join Professor Hakim Adi who will discuss his recently published book Pan Africanism: A History, which provides a history of the individuals and organisations that have sought the unity of all those of African origin as the basis for their advancement and liberation.
In connection with this wider theme, the Young Historians Project will present their work on the London-based Black Liberation Front. By establishing supplementary schools, community bookshops, affordable housing for black families and support for black prisoners, the BLF focused on developing Pan-African consciousness, consolidating black political identity and challenging the impact of racism in Britain.
Both presentations will be followed by an audience discussion on the wider theme of Pan-Africanism and how to engage more young people from African and Caribbean backgrounds with the study of history.
Copies of the book will be available at the event at the greatly reduced cost of £15.
