“Checking Our Pulse” – Heart Disease
Save for Later
Checking Our Pulse is an exhibit at the Northwest African American Museum designed to do three things. First, to celebrate the regional heroes who have dedicated their lives to improving health care in our community. Second, to have a means of furthering awareness about the universal health issues that disproportionately affect the African American population, such as breast cancer, HIV/AIDS, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Finally, the exhibit will serve as a “call to action” for those in the African American community to begin making more positive lifestyle choices that will lead to healthier families and a healthier community. Checking Our Pulse aims to celebrate the work of local medical professionals in the African American community, and use this celebration as a means to connect the local African American population with nearby healthcare providers and solutions.
In this segment, Devon Love and Dr. Marquis Hart discuss heart disease and cardiovascular health in the African American community.
